Every role that Luna had the pleasure of playing had always been, well, very much life herself. Maybe not as innocent, but usually exeedingly kind, happy individuals. When the girl had caught word of a local playhouse putting on a production of Cabaret, she couldn’t help but be thrilled. The concept of being someone so different from herself thrilled her. No matter the character, it was foreign and exciting. With auditions being the next day, Luna could feel the insecurities brimming in her head. If there was one thing she’d never been able to do, it was sexy. What had inspiried her to do that, even as a fictional character? Sally Bowles was a prostitute, exotic dancer, take your pick! She was a naive teenage girl. There was no corrolation.
Willing to do anything to get her mind off of the trecherous auditions, Luna had agreed to go over to Mark’s house and watch what in her opinion was the greatest musical of all time. She was a sucker for romance, what could she say? The girl was excited for the fact that her boyfriend wanted to sit through 152 minutes of singing, dancing, and snapping using as a form of gang violence. It just proved how lucky she was. C’mon, if you weren’t a self-proclaimed ”theater person” musicals… well… they could be pretty stupid. On the other side of the spectrum, they created a new world filled with the grandeur of show business. It was all a matter of perception.
Grabbing the copy of the DVD from her stack and her keys from the kitchen table, Luna was off. Her old, excuse for a car (which she had bought herself, thank you very much) was parked across the street, because her building had the inconveniece of no parking. Sure, it was low-budget, but she also had the satisfaction of saying that she’d paid for her rent by herself. The drive was short, since Lancaster was a small town. By the time she arrived and made sure that she had the right house this time, she was antsy to see Mark. But, she had to curb her enthusiasm. Obsessive girlfriend wasn’t pretty on anyone. Off went the ignition. The door to the car popped open, and the girl scattered out. When she got to the front door, she knocked twice, swiftly.
When Mark heard the knocks on his front door, he spitted out all the toothpaste he had inside his mouth and wiped it with a towel, before running downstairs and opening the door, offering his beautiful girlfriend a big shiny smile, probably shinier after brushing his teeth a thousand times. “Hi, love.” he said, pulling her to him and kissing her gently. “So are you ready to force me, I mean, teaching me everything I have to know about musicals? Because I’m ready. I had a full night of meditation and mental preparation.” he joked. “Come in, make yourself comfortable.” He said as he led her to the living room, where the television was. Then he noticed, the DVD player wasn’t there, it was downstairs.
“Oh dammit. I’ll be right back, alright, don’t move.” He said as he started walking downstairs, but then ran back upstairs and kissed her cheek, before running back downstairs. Once he was downstairs, he looked for the DVD player… it was in the shelf his record player was in. He walked over to it and pulled the box out. When he turned around, he saw the vase full of flowers his mom had, because she loved flowers in a creepy way… but she liked nice flowers, at least. He walked over to the vase and cut one big lily with his left hand, because she right one was now holding the box with the DVD. When he was done, he walked upstairs quietly, and moved carefully so she wouldn’t see him walking behind her, he left the box in the carpet for a moment, so he could use his two hands on her. He creeped slowly until he was a few inches from the couch, and he once again, kissed her cheek, before placing the lily behind her ear, then he whispered “You’re beautiful.”
He walked back to the box and picked it up, now walking to the TV and unplugging the cables to his Play Station 3, and plugging the DVD’s. He looked for the remote inside of the box, feeling a bit worried when he didn’t find it. He hadn’t brought her here for nothing. But then, he realized the remote was on top of the TV. He sighed in relief and set everything up. “May I, young lady?” Mark said with a little smirk forming on his lips, before he took the movie, opened the door and placed the disc inside the DVD. Then he headed back to the couch, sitting next to Luna, somehow sneaking his arm around her waist and pulling her close to him. “So, shall we watch it in spanish?” he joked, setting everything in the menu, before pressing the ‘Play Movie’ option.
As Luna sat alone downstairs, she felt the weight of her words crash onto her shoulders. She never exploded on people....
For some reason, Luna’s words hurt him. Good job, idiot. He looked down as she spoke, his brows furrowed. “I’m sorry,...
